Ra'talahai (Pixies)

What? Your new entries get to be written by guest authors, and I have to make my additions myself? That's not f-

Ahem, in any case, let us begin. Ra'talahai (Rah-Tah-Lah-High), or 'Pixies' as they are colloquially known, are a relatively newly discovered species as of my current writing. Pixies are highly insectoid in appearance, featuring four spindly arms, two legs, a pair of wings and a thick chitinous shell, but be warned, you are in for a hard time if you wish to squish this particular bug. Pixies commonly range from six to nine feet tall, which makes their enormous antennae all the more terrifying to the uninitiated.

As for the Pixie culture, while research into this subject is incredibly sparse at the moment, I will try and shed some light based on my own personal research. Pixies commonly join together in small tribes of twenty to fifty individuals, headed up by a religious leader of some kind, commonly called a 'shaman'. It is unclear how this leader is selected from the other Pixies in the tribe, but his or her job is to heavily micromanage all activities, including their own. For this reason, shamans tend to have a lower life expectancy than their common counterparts.

However, while the Pixies are indeed tribal, they are not at all nomadic. Having refined a craft in stonemasonry for many years, Pixies construct enormous triangular buildings to make their homes, which I believe are called 'pyramids'. The entrance to these pyramids is not a door, as many species use, but a small tunnel underground, one that is blocked off when not in use. This most likely came from the days when predators from the island were still a problem, but at present, it is simply a reminder to the species of what they once were.

Finally, while I do not have enough evidence to say for certain, a Pixie shaman I met on my travels was kind enough to give a possible origin story to the speicies:

One day, long ago, there was a strong, intelligent beetle. His name was Eerste, and while his family members battled with the day-to-day problems of being simply another insect, Eerste dreamed. He saw the big human boats far from the shore - ships, you call them? - and wished deeply to be among them, to be like them...and in his mind, a voice responded. It revealed itself as Afsterwe, or Kronis, I believe you call him. He shifted great Eerste's form, gifting him stand on two legs, having teeth, greater intelligence...even speech. But he was not human. Horrified, Eerste returned to his family, only to find that they, too, had changed into this cursed form, along with every other beetle on the island.

He had wished to be like the humans and, in a twisted way, his wish had been granted. Such is the way of Afsterwe.

Species Abilities:

Flight - Due to the size of their wings in comparison to the rest of their body, along with the weight of them, Pixie flight is more akin to a sustained leap than actual flight. However, this makes their leap both incredibly fast and very, very deadly.

Enhanced Excavation - While it takes time to charge up, a Pixie can actually spin their horn at ludicrous speeds, making them a force to be reckoned with when it comes to digging.

Animal Empathy - Pixies cannot speak common well, but using their antannae, Pixies have the ability to communicate with animals. This makes them incredible animal tamers, even moreso than the Dwarves.

Druidic Affinity - The magic that shamans use is almost identical to druidic magic and, in general, Pixies tend to be highly skilled in this area. Unfortunately, perhaps by more Kronis-bound trickery, Pixies cannot use other magic types such as wizard or impulse magic.

Basic Facts:

Homelands:
* Ra'tonalu Island.

Age to Maturity:
* Ten years.

Lifespan:
* Assuming good health, a Pixie can commonly live up to fifty years.

Mating Habits:
* Pairs between Pixie's are chosen by the shaman of the tribe, who will try his or her best to make couples that will produce strong, able-bodied children. For this reason, the shaman is occasionally called the Great Shipper. Even for Pixie's that have left the island's craft, they will often seek the opinions of others on their desired mate before thinking about their own.

Diet:
* While technically omnivorous, Pixie's commonly prefer fruit and plant sap as their main food sources, since their underdeveloped teeth make it difficult to bite into tough meat.

Notable Friendly Race Relations:
* None currently known.

Notable Hostile Race Relations:
* None.

Other Miscellaneous Facts:
* The chitin on their back is hard enough to be compared to tempered steel, however, their underbellies are incredibly delicate and easy to pierce with bladed weapons.
* When battles between tribes occur, the dispute is commonly resolved through staged combat between each of the tribes' most famed giant scorpion riders.

Tiefling

The tiefling race is a strange one. No one is quite sure how or where they first appeared. Rather they just suddenly appeared and began to spread in the world. Thankfully most of them are peaceful... Most of them.

With their varying skin colors and their devilish appearance most folk call them "Kronis' Children". Its believed that Kronis himself laid with a woman and created the race in that way, but these are but baseless pondering and accusations.

Most tieflings live standard lives, like those of Humans and other civilized races. They cover most of Tel Anar, though they themselves have no true place to call home. Often times either mercenaries or nomads, this race moves about quite a bit, never liking to stay in the same place for too long without a good reason.

Another strange thing about the tieflings is their Innate magical ability and affinity for more evil arts. Most tieflings who take up learning the arcane arts take to the Infernal, Fae, or even Eldritch schools of magic. Often meaning Necromancy, Demonology, Mind Alteration and the like. And while most tiefling are considered quite kind, those that delve into these dark arts often become recluse, irritable, and all together unpleasant.

Oddly enough,the tieflings aren't immortal as one would expect. While they do have quite the life span, they do die after around two hundred or so years. Quite longer than a human, but not long enough to be comparable to an elf and the like.

Species Ability:

Innate Magical Ability - Because of their magical nature, Tieflings are quite good with magic. Able to cast first level spells without any sort of studying.

Devil's Tongue - Either they were born with it, or just were taught it, all of the Tiefling race can speak a language most don't understand. A harsh language that some consider unholy or evil. Infernal is the language they all can speak, the language of the Demons.

Basic Facts:

Homelands:
* Tieflings do not have a Homeland. They wander about Tel Anar as a nomadic people

Age to Maturity:
* 18 Years

Lifespan:
* Just over 200 years

Mating Habits:
* Similar to Human courtship.

Diet:
* Primarily Meat eaters, but they are Omnivorous

Notable Friendly Race Relations:
* Humans

Notable Hostile Race Relations:
* None

Other Miscellaneous Facts:
* There are a few cases of Tieflings being born into Nobility. This is considered very rare, though when it does happen those tieflings are often treated very well.

* Tieflings, as a species, are magically gifted. As such they know At most Two Cantrip spells without any sort of studying.

Dragonborn

Dragonborn are a curious case. A relatively new race that only began to pop up around Tel Anar after the Draconic War. This species is primarily covered in thick scales, stands at roughly between 5 to 7 feet tall, and often times can breath some sort of elemental attack from their mouths.

Dragonborn come from, as their names would suggest, Dragons. Well not just dragons. Its what happens when the more humanoid races, such as humans or elves, mate with a dragon. They produce this Half Human, Half Dragon hybrid. While at first apprehensive of this race, Tel Anar soon found that they were quite hardy and good workers. Not only that, but great warriors as well.

Unlike Tieflings, whom just appeared, Dragonborn have a home. The Helvetti Isles are always welcoming to their cousins. Though this doesn't mean they ALL live on the island. Many of them live on the main land in Tel Anar, heading about their day to day lives.

Now Dragonborn come in all shapes and sizes. It all depends on their parents. Should a Human, Elf, or Vampire be the parent to a dragonborn they often come out very human in nature, meaning well mannered and the like. Should an Orc be the parent they often come out to be massive warriors, standing proudly at 8 feet tall, with mighty tails that can shake the very earth.

Goblin, Dwarf, and Halfling Parents produce shorter stout Dragonborn, often better used for sneaking about. Don't let their size fool you however, they are still quite dangerous.

Please note that regardless of parents, All dragonborn are born without wings. They are sadly grounded like the rest of us.

Oddly enough Centaurs, Trolls, Werewolves, and the Fae folk, cannot bare offspring with a dragon. No one is quite sure why, as they are able with other races. Its a strange thing that acolytes have been trying to understand for years.

Species Ability:

Breath Weapon: Depending on the kind of draconic parent the Dragonborn had, they can breath an elemental weapon much like their parent. These can be: Fire, Ice, Lightning, or Poison.
(Please note that whatever breath weapon you choose also affects what color scales you have. Check the Dragon's Race post to understand more)

Dragonborn Heritage:

Unlike most other races, Dragonborn fall into various "Sub-Races" Each one gives them a different Ability.

Stout: Their mortal parent is either Goblin, Halfing, or Dwarf. This means their stature is smaller than that of standard human races. Because of this they are extra good at sneaking around. They are also Very good at finding gems and coin.

Classic: The Standard Dragon Born. Your parent was a Human, an Elf, or a Vampire. You are exceptionally good a manual work, either being Labor or perhaps battle. Because of this you make for fine Hiring in any shop or Party.

Beserker: The largest of the Dragon Born. These Dragonborn sport much tougher scales. Rivaling that of Iron Armor. Not to mention they stand at 8 ft tall, at their smallest. Their tails are also very wide and full of muscle, and as such can be used as a dangerous weapon in combat.

Basic Facts:

Homelands:
*Helvetti Isles, or most of Tel Anar

Age to Maturity:
*18

Life Span:
No one is quite sure, as they are a newer race. however the ones that are around currently are well over 100 years of age, so we believe they may have immortality.

Mating Habits:
Much like human Courtship.

Diet:
Carnivorous - Only Meat can sustain them.

Notable Friendly Race Relations:
* Dragons

Notable Hostile Race Relations:
* None

Other Miscellaneous Facts:
* When a dragonborn makes an offspring with another more humanoid race, the child produced is still dragonborn, however they take on a much more human appearance. Less draconic.

*Dragonborn all secretly detest eel. They can't digest it, and the smell is enough to make them feel queasy.
